Harlyn bay is one of the most popular and best family friendly beaches and has a reputation as one of the safer beaches in Cornwall. Harlyn Bay is a wide curved beach and is very popular with families and surfers alike. There is a permanent surf school on the beach and a great surf shop and bar at The Harlyn pub, just behind the beach. The bay is popular with novice surfers who can learn to master the waves with surf schools who run sessions from the beach all summer.
There’s a great combination of rocky shoreline, golden sand, sand dunes and tidal pools to explore.
The remains of an iron age cemetery were discovered on the beach below the sand after a storm and graves were also discovered in the garden of an old house next to the pub.
There is a large carpark with easy access to the soft golden sand. The coastal path from Harlyn Bay goes past Mother Iveys Bay and Trevose Head and onto Boobys, Constantine and Treyarnon starts on Harlyn Bay Beach to Boat bay, so this route may be tricky at high tide. However there is an alternative path along the cliff top but try to use the beach if you can its a much nicer walk with the chance of a paddle on a hot summers day!
